I am leaving here on Thursday, how exciting!

What's not exciting is clearing out my desk, making lists, making sure I have no incriminating emails slopping around in my inbox and trying to clear my internet history.

I am, however, very excited about starting my new job next week.

Must dash..

My Favourite Photo

james.jpg

I love this photo – I love the way it has captured a memory so perfectly. I love it because it is familiar and portrays a face I know so well but miss so much.

This photo was taken about 7 years ago at a 21st birthday party. The boy at the back raising his glass in the air is my cousin James, we lost James the following year when he had an accident on his motorbike, and he died instantly.

We, as a family, have never fully recovered from this loss – as time passes the pain eases and broken hearts are healed but he is always in our thoughts, always. I talk about him a lot (usually after a few bevies) but have never written about him, the picture urged me to. It’s pretty normal to speak of loves lost as wonderful and perfect and so on but James was such a blessing that I still thank God for the 21 years that I knew and loved him, he was special and there are many people that will vouch for that.

My last memory of James will not be of him lying, peacefully, in his coffin or of the brass band marching behind his coffin, down our road and into Dad’s church it will be of him having fun, playing his guitar and singing - it will be of times captured within this very photo.

I still see James’ friends regularly and they have all turned into (a lot more mature looking) men, with jobs and girlfriends and rock star dreams and however difficult it can be to watch them go on and grow up without him his spirit is always there, in the background, raising his glass in the air.

Bouncer

I am very sad to announce that my nephew has been banned from the trampoline (see below) for 48 hours.

He was told 3 times not to throw the ball at his sister while she was bouncing.

48 hours must feel like a life time at his age.

My Favourite Space

I’m tired today and when I am tired I like to eat and so as I am tired and I like to eat when I am tired I ate a croissant for my breakfast this morning, en route to the office and during my four-flight-hike up the stairs in my building (the lift is kaput). Nothing quite like the comfort of food is there – buttery, warm food at that. An apple or a pear doesn’t quite have the same effect, unfortunately.

Some news for you (pretty boring stuff coming up) I have found the most fabulous moisturiser ever, it’s by Nivea and it’s a night cream and it’s miraculous. My skin is so soft that beloved compared my face to a kinder egg – I am not sure about that one but who cares - my skin is SO SOFT.

I have been experimenting with myspace.com – what’s the deal with this? Does anyone here use it? It’s pretty addictive though and I am not sure if I am ready to be a myspace geek as well as a 20six geek - I am 27 in a couple of weeks, twentybloodyseven!

Party

I have decided that ‘Everybody Loves Chris’ is Sunday viewing at it’s best – it’s so funny, I just love it.

Yesterday, (apart from watching double episode of the above) was spent at my niece’s 5th birthday party. Apart from the usual (annual) tasks of arranging party bags and wrapping the pass the parcel, which is now my ‘official’ job at their parties, I also supervised the tea and made sure the kiddies had enough sugar to keep them hyper. My favourite kiddie quote came from a little boy sitting at the head of the table; I offered him a cheese sarnie only to be told ‘ooh no, is that cheddar? I only eat cheddar’. Needless to say he went without.

I spent the latter part of the day bouncing on her new trampoline (see below) and I haven’t laughed as much in a long time, she is my angel. I then went home and, sticking with the 5 year old theme, made fish fingers, chips and beans for supper -comfort food at its best.

I also have a pile of ironing that needs doing and therefore will have to be a responsible 26 year old this evening and get that done. I may even cook some fish and vege for tea

How terribly boring.

Food Photography - Paying Homage to the Lad that is Silly

Every Second Counts

My porridge exploded in the microwave this morning, the mess was terrible. I was faced with a moral dilemma of the highest proportion. Should I

a) Leave the mess (oaty, sticky soy milk) or

b) Risk being late for work by cleaning said mess

My morning runs to a strict routine - shower, teeth, feed cat, put lunch in bag, open curtains, make bed, get dressed, apply some make up, dry hair, eat breakfast and leave. I did not anticipate such a glitch in my morning schedule.

Needless to say, out came the marigolds and off went my train without me on it.
